![]() ![]() ![]() The same setup running 12 SATA LFF doesn't have the problem, so I attribute it to fact that it has to deal with both SAS and SATA on the same backplane which is never ideal, but this is a dev machine and i'd rather have my critical data on raid-10 with 15K SAS 300gb and use the extra 2tb drives as "bulk" backup storage area. I have 6 SATA 2TB and 6 15K SAS 300gb in one 12LFF expander and it is glitchy at best. Same drive happened to drop out twice (nothing wrong with the drive, no smart errors, just SATA). I've got one DL180 G6 that has an issue when you pull/push a drive too many times, another drive in another array will drop out as well. I'd rather do 8 drives per normal sas controller and not have to deal with the glitches in sas-expanders. Honestly - I've come to hate sas-expanders. Shit like drives dropping out prematurely or combination of SATA/SAS issues. If you read the MSA60/70 revision firmware - you'll be able to trace back the issues folks had with drives/combo's and the buggy firmware. The firmware is pretty much the sas expander chips since that's the only thing that box has going on inside of it! ![]() ![]() It's something they know, probably somehow they got the units in the first place "as defective". Yeah most of the resellers know they have the flawed backplane so they will not acknowledge if they can take the newest firmware or not. ![]()
